Wedge Gate Valves
A wedge gate valve is one of the more common types you will find in widespread use across all relevant plumbing and industrial pipeline setups. Subtypes include the solid wedge, the flexible wedge, and the split wedge. Solid wedge gate valves (or plain wedge valves) tend to be the most widely used.
Parallel Gate Valves
A parallel gate valve (sometimes called a parallel disk gate valve, or parallel slide gate valve) operates in much the same way as a wedge gate valve, but the gate features two disks placed at a 90-degree angle to the fluid flow direction. They are generally seen as safer in high temperature applications, where the parallel design is less likely to result in thermal binding.
Some Installation Specifications That Should Be Followed When Installing Gate Valves
● Installation of the gate valve, the flange must be at room temperature.
● While valves can be installed in any form, flat or upright, it is advisable to install them in an upright form for easy hand-wheel access.
● Ensure that during installation, the pipe flanges are spaced so that there is enough space for the valve to be inserted or removed during servicing.
● Welding jobs should be completed before the installation of the gate valve.
● Sludges and waste residues in the pipeline must be washed away before the valves are installed.
● The flange and valve should be properly aligned, and the pipe handling of the weight of the valve should be checked.
● The materials of the gate valve parts should be checked to ensure no damage was done during transportation or storage.
● The bolts connecting the valve to the pipes should be tightened properly, and the pressure should be equally distributed.
● The parts of the pipe flanges to contact the valves should be clean and free of residue.
● The gate valve should be tested after bolting to ensure the valve is stable in its position.
1. The gate valve with bypass should be opened before opening the bypass valve (to balance the differential pressure in and out and reduce the opening torque).
2. When operating, the human body should not be facing the top of the valve stem to prevent the stem from being pressurized and ejected.
3. Switching operation should be smooth, force to be uniform, the use of impact is strictly prohibited, the general situation can be operated by hand, avoid the use of force lever to operate the new valve.
4. Handwheel (handle) strength is designed to operate the required torque value as a reference basis, so do not handwheel (handle) as an operating pedal and arbitrary growth or lengthening lever, or a wrench to increase the torque excessively, not to use ropes and other roles in the handwheel (handle), and then a crane or pulley to operate or lift the valve.
5. Gate valve with handwheel or handle, turn the handwheel clockwise to close, counterclockwise to open. When the valve is fully open, the handwheel should be turned back 1 to 2 turns in the opposite direction. The operation of the gate valve with other actuators should strictly follow the product instructions.
6. Under the high pressure difference, the gate is half open and half closed state easy to damage the gate, so the gate valve can not be used for throttling or regulation, must be completely open or completely closed at one time.
