You can generally identify the type of pipe fitting by the connection type.

①Compression fittings

Compression fittings use compression on rings, washers or ferrules to join pipes. Compression is usually accomplished by tightening nuts into ferrules and fittings on the pipe, securing and compressing the inner pipe.

②End fittings

End fittings create specific surfaces for pipe connections. Clamp end fittings allow pipe to be clamped to pipe connections. Flat end fittings allow pipe connections to be made by soldering, adhesives, welding and other methods.

③Flange fittings

A flange fitting is an edge, rim, collar, or rib that has a flat surface that is perpendicular to the pipe to which it is connected. These surfaces are joined together by bolts, clamps, brazing, welding or threading.

④Threaded fittings

Threaded fittings are made of threads on both the inside and outside surfaces, allowing the pipe to have matching threads. Straight threads are threads that form a simple connection without sealing. Tapered threads are threads that form a tight seal for fluids and gases under pressure. Sealing reliability can be improved by adding sealing tape or coating.

Elbows are one of the most commonly used pipe fittings. It changes the direction of the pipe to a different angle. The most common angles are 45° and 90°, but can be cut at any angle. The pipes are connected with 45° elbows that change the direction of the water flow by 45 degrees. Install a 90° elbow on the pipe to change the direction of water flow by 90 degrees. It comes in two forms:

①Long radius elbow

In a long-radius elbow, the centerline radius is 1.5 times the pipe diameter. Long radius elbows are used more in pipes as compared to short radius elbows because the pressure loss is smaller.

②Short radius elbow

The centerline radius of a short-radius elbow is similar to the diameter of the pipe. It is commonly used when application space is limited, but this form has a higher pressure drop due to sudden changes in flow direction.

Pipe fittings are either externally threaded or internally threaded. In threaded fittings, the internal threads are on the inside and the external threads are on the outside. Fittings that have one female end and one male end are called street fittings. To avoid confusion, connections are often designated as male or female, abbreviated "M" or "F" respectively. Therefore, the fittings are organized as follows：

*Male Thread – These fittings have external threads. They are threaded internally into the larger diameter pipe end.

*Female Thread – These fittings have internal threads. They either screw onto the outside of the smaller diameter pipe end via external threads or receive externally threaded fittings.

*Male Slip Fit – These pipe fittings are not threaded. They slide into slightly larger diameter sleeves.

*Female Slip Fit – These pipe fittings are not threaded. They slide into sleeves of slightly smaller diameter.

①Determine material compatibility: Some fluids are incompatible with joint materials, and these joints can cause leakage or system damage. It is important to check the fluid's material compatibility with any chemicals.

②Check temperature and pressure conditions: Proper operating conditions require appropriate temperature and pressure ratings. You need to make sure our threaded fittings will function properly at the temperatures and pressures of your pipes.

③Sizing: All pipes are manufactured to standardized outside diameter (OD) and wall thickness specifications, which in turn means that the nominal pipe size is approximately equal to the inside diameter (ID). If you are still unsure about the size, please contact us to help you.
