What Materials Are Available For Stainless Steel Lug Butterfly Valves?

Aug 15, 2024

The material selection of the stainless steel lug butterfly valve mainly depends on its working environment, medium characteristics and the required corrosion resistance and mechanical strength.
Here are some common stainless steel options

SS304 (304 stainless steel) : This is the most common stainless steel material, with good corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. It is suitable for general corrosive media, such as water, air, steam and some chemical media.
SS316 (316 stainless steel) : Compared to SS304, SS316 contains higher nickel and molybdenum content, which makes it excellent in terms of resistance to chloride ion corrosion. Therefore, it is especially suitable for Marine environment, chemical industry, paper and other media containing chloride.
SS304L (304L stainless steel) : This is a low-carbon version of SS304 that has similar corrosion resistance, but produces less carbide precipitation during welding, helping to reduce intergranular corrosion sensitivity in the welding area.
SS316L (316L stainless steel) : Similar to SS316 but with a lower carbon content, it is also suitable for applications where good weldability and low corrosion sensitivity are required.
Duplex stainless steel: such as 2205 duplex stainless steel, with high strength, excellent corrosion resistance and good welding performance. It is especially suitable for highly corrosive environments, such as seawater and acidic media.
Super austenitic stainless steel: such as 904L stainless steel, has very high corrosion resistance, can resist strong acids, strong bases and a variety of organic and inorganic compounds corrosion.
Special alloys: In some extreme conditions, it may be necessary to use stainless steel lug butterfly valves made of special alloys such as Hastelloy and Monel.
