Stainless steel pipe nipples are threaded pipe nipples forged from high-quality 304/304L/316/316L stainless steel pipes. The pipe nipple specifications include seamless pipe nipple, welded pipe nipple, TOE pipe nipple/welding nipple, TBE pipe nipple/barrel nipple, close nipple/running nipple, and shoulder nipple.

Barrel Pipe Nipple
Barrel nipples are tapered NPT threaded on both ends and have an unthreaded section in the middle. These are some of the most common types of pipe nipples, and due to their inherent strength and easy-to-remove design can be used in various applications to fit female threaded piping together.
T.O.E Pipe Nipple
T.O.E stands for threaded one end. T.O.E pipe nipples have one threaded end and one non-threaded end. Unlike other types of T.B.E (threaded both end) nipples, these are not used to fit piping together and are commonly used as legs for oil tanks.
Close Pipe/Running Pipe Nipple
A close pipe nipple is a Ss pipe nipple that does not have an unthreaded section in the middle. These types of pipe nipples are also known as running nipples. These pipe nipples are designed such that connected fittings come very close to one another, leaving very little of the pipe nipple exposed.
Generally, close or running pipe nipples are difficult to work with as they can easily become damaged upon removal unless specialty equipment is used.
Shoulder Pipe Nipple
Shoulder pipe nipples are longer than close nipples and have a very small section of unthreaded pipe in the middle. However, this unthreaded section is not large enough to fit a pipe wrench to remove the nipple.
Hexagonal Pipe Nipple
Also known as a Hex pipe nipple, these are designed with a hexagonal-shaped middle section. This allows one to securely grasp the nipple with a wrench to tighten or remove it. This design feature provides a greater mechanical advantage than that of a normally rounded nipple. Hence, hex pipe nipples are used in various applications where nipples need to be regularly removed or replaced.
Reducing/Unequal Pipe Nipple
Reducing or unequal pipe nipples are designed to allow a female fitting with a large connection to attach to a relatively smaller one. These are normally used for piping systems where a change in pipe dimension and flow pressure is necessary.
Hose Pipe Nipple
A Hose pipe nipple is designed with a male threaded connection on one end and a hose barb on the other end. These are normally used for piping systems that require a pipe to be connected to tubing.
Welding Pipe Nipple
A welding pipe nipple has a male threaded connection on one end and a standard cut pipe on the other end. Once the unthreaded end is welded and connected, fitting a pipe to the threaded end becomes much easier. Welding pipe nipples are normally used in piping systems that require welding to connect components.
Among the various types of Ss pipe nipple types are the hexagonal nipple, close nipple, reducing nipple, long hex nipple, welding nipple, and hose nipple. Basically, a nipple is simply a short length of pipe featuring male pipe threads located at both ends, making it possible to connect other fittings. Nipple fittings that do not have a section of unthreaded or bare pipe between the two connecting ends are usually known as running nipples or close nipples. When these types of nipples are used in a connection, only a small amount of the nipple is visible.
In some applications, there may be very little space available between the two threaded ends. A hexagonal nipple is often the best choice in this type of application, as it works similar to a nut and offers improved mechanical advantage. When a hexagonal nipple features more distance between the two threaded ends, it is referred to as a long hex nipple.
Reducing Ss pipe nipples are often used in applications in which a change in pipe dimension is required. This may also sometimes be known as an unequal nipple. When using these types of fittings, it is important to exercise care, as a reduction in the diameter of the pipe can result in increased flow rate and pressure.
Ss pipe nipples are generally ideal for low-pressure applications in which a fitting that is resistant to corrosion in oil, gas, and water is required. It should be noted that a Ss pipe nipple has a pressure rating of 150 PSI for oil, gas, and water. Other types of Ss pipe nipples include the 316, which offers a greater degree of heat resistance and corrosion resistance. As needed, it is also possible to order Ss pipe nipples in custom sizes.
While similar to carbon steel in makeup, stainless steel is defined by having more chromium content. Compared to standard steel, stainless steel pipe nipples are more resistant to rust, corrosior, and stains. The exact amount of resistance to corrosion and heat is indicated by the grade of the stainless steel.
Stainless steel pipe fittings, as an important type of threaded pipe fittings, are typically rated for 150 psi for water, oil, and gas, making them ideal for low-pressure transfer. The corrosion and heat resistance of stainless steel is also variable, with type 316 being more resistant than type 304.
Threads used on nipples are BSP, BSPT, NPT, NPSM, and Metric.
The Ss pipe nipple has different dimension standards according to different thread manufacturing standards. And the threads have different types. The most commonly used types are NPT threads and BSP Threads. NPT is an American standard tapered thread, while BSP is a British standard thread. BSP thread has tapered type BSPT and parallel type BSPP.

Barrel Pipe Nipple
Barrel Pipe nipples are sometimes referred to as barrel nipples which unless otherwise stated, are tapered NPT threaded at each end with an unthreaded section in the middle. Nipples that are threaded on both ends are commonly referred to as T.B.E which stands for threaded both ends. When looking at the lengths of the nipple, the length is specified by the overall length including the threads.
T.O.E Pipe Nipple
T.O.E stands for threaded one end. This style of nipple is typically used as legs for oil tanks. T.O.E nipples are sometimes confused with weld nipples but true weld nipples have a beveled end finish that is required specifically for butt weld connections.
Weld Pipe Nipple
Weld nipples have no threads and connect to tube fittings by welding versus threading. Weld nipples are suitable to be used under extreme conditions like vibration, pressure surges, and changes in temperature. Weld nipples are not weakened by the cut threads which can reduce the wall thickness and therefore weaken the structural strength.
Close Pipe Nipple
A close nipple has no unthreaded area which means that when two female fittings are screwed tightly onto both ends of the nipple, very little of the nipple will still be exposed. When ordering a close nipple, they are ordered by the diameter by close, for example 1/2" x close.
Shoulder Pipe Nipple
Shoulder nipples are longer than a close nipple and include a very short unthreaded space between the threads. The unthreaded space is not large enough to fit a pipe wrench. When two female fittings are screwed onto either end, a small piece of nipple will remain exposed. A shoulder nipple is the first length of nipple that is available up from a close nipple.
Hex Pipe Nipple
A hex nipple gets its name from the hexagon shaped middle section. The hexagon shape allows for a wrench to grasp it securely. If you come across a hex nipple with two different sizes on each end, it is referred to as a reducer or unequal nipple.
Right-Left Hand Pipe Nipple
Right-left hand nipples have a right-hand thread on one end of the nipple and a left-hand thread on the other end. This style of pipe nipple is typically used for gas piping or piping applications where using unions is not allowed. Right-left hand nipples can also be used to connect to female pipe thread in installations where there is no room for a union.
Swage Pipe Nipple
Swage nipples are used to bring the flow of fluids from one pipe size to another pipe size. The function of a swage nipple is to change the pipe's diameter and to connect two pipes of different sizes. The swage nipple is divided into concentric swage nipple and eccentric swage nipple. Concentric swage nipple is mainly used for vertical pipeline, eccentric swage nipple is mainly used in horizontal pipelines. Eccentric reducers can be installed in either top flat or bottom flat orientations. The gradual accumulation of air in a concentric reducer could result in a large bubble that could eventually cause the pump to stall or cause cavitation when drawn into the pump. Horizontal gas reducers are always eccentric, in bottom flat orientation, which allows condensed water or oil to drain at low points.
Seamless Pipe Nipple
Seamless pipe nipples do not have a welded seam that runs up the length of the pipe nipples. Seamless pipe nipples are structurally stronger and are designed for high pressure applications.
Grooved Pipe Nipples
Grooved pipe nipples are commonly used in commercial or industrial construction, mining and process piping applications. There are three common configurations Groove x Groove, Groove x Bevel, and Groove x MPT. They are available in a large range of sizes from 1-1/2" to 12" and are fully interchangeable with popular groove pipe fittings brands.
Combination/King Pipe Nipple
Combination nipples or sometimes referred to as king nipples, are an extremely versatile way of transitioning from hose pipe to threads. The end connections are for fluid service only and should not be used for air service or steam service. The most common connection is MPT but you can also find them with female NPT, flanged or a blank beveled end for welding. Combination nipples are sometimes confused with male adapters as they look quite similar, but male adapters are designed for polyethylene pipe.
How Do You Care for Ss Pipe Nipples
